Abstract

The pourpose of this study is to verify the frequency of loss of first permanent molar (1º PM) and the percentage of the sample responsible for this loss among youngs of the Porto Alegre town. Were examined 10220 males with age enter 17 and 29 years with variable social, economic and cultural patterns, whit presented for health inspection for military obrigatory service at 2000 year. The index adoted was the mortality of 1º PM, considerated too how lost when there was only radiculary rests. The results showed 1960 persons or 19,18% of the sample with loss of 3374 1º PM or a frequency of loss of 8,26% of the cases.
