Aggeing Effect on Dental Cement Thickness

Abstract

It is an "in vitro" experiment with 27 extracted human teeth of diferent age groups, These teeth were divided in three groups: group 1: 20 to 40 years; group 2: 41 to 60 years; group 3: more than 60 years. After selection, all teeth were seccioned longitudinally with the aid of a precision slice machine Labcut 1010. Cement thickness was determined by microscope exam combined to a microcomputer (UNISYS). The results showed the mean values of the groups as following: group 1: 0,27 mm; group 2: 0,46 mm; group 3: 0,69 mm. It was observed a progressive thickness of the cement layer as age increases.
