About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Our mission

The Revista da Faculdade de Odontologia de Porto Alegre (RFO-POA) is intended to propagate high-quality scientific research, including the most unique areas of dentistry, aiming to publish basic, clinical, and epidemiological research. Our mission also includes the propagation of innovative information for the dental community.

The journal is directed to professors, researchers, dentists, and undergrad and graduate students, aiming to help promote the scientific and technological fields as well as the processes of learning and teaching dental health professionals.


RFO-POA’s goal is to publish basic clinical and epidemiological research. According to our editorial policy, we accept full-length papers, written in either Portuguese or English, submitted solely to our journal, without simultaneous submission to another journal. We may eventually publish proceedings and abstracts of research presented at events.

Peer Review Process

The journal uses the double-blind peer-review method. The papers submitted, following the criteria listed in the Author Guidelines will be evaluated first by a member of the journal’s editorial board, then also referees within the field of expertise. If needed, the editor can also consult an ad-hoc consultant for a second analysis and opinion.

The originality and relevance of the paper will be a prioritizing factor. It is mandatory that every article that includes human subjects must have approval by an ethical committee.

The time span for a request by the referees for corrections to manuscripts is approximately 30 days. The criteria established by the Editorial Board for members of the evaluators group it is to have a dentistry master’s degree and proof of research work and recent publications.

Publication Frequency

It currently adopts the continuous publication type.

Open Access Policy

The Revista da Faculdade de Odontologia de Porto Alegre offers open access to its content, following the principle that allowing free access to a broad readership will increase the democratization of knowledge.


All articles published in this journal adhere to Creative Commons License Attributions 4.0 (CC BY 4.0), and their use must be ruled by the license.


Our editorial policy allows and encourages self-archiving of articles at sites and/or public repositories, using the journal's post-print version, according to the Diadorim and Sherpa Romeo registration.
