Abstract

The number of elderly people is increasing around the world. The increasing of elderly population is faster in developing countries including Brazil. The oral health needs among older subjects has increased interest in Gerodontology. Geriatric Dentistry is becoming a very important subject in Dental Education. It is important do not waste time to start undergraduate and postgraduation Gerodontology courses. This Paper examines demographic aspects, current concepts,introduces new concepts concerning Gerodontology And shows how the Gerodontology is starting as a discipline at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul Dental School.
