Abstract

The aim of this study was to verify developmental odontogenie cysts prevalence at the Oral Pathology Departamentof theFederal University Rio Grande do Sul. The data being presente dwere taken from biopsy records of patients who were attended between 1979 and1 999. Data collected from records had complete information regardingage, sex of patients and anatomical site of the cystic lesions. In 276 cases, 212(76,8%) were dentigerous cysts, 55 (19,9%) odontogenie keratocysts, 5 (1,8%) eruptioncysts,3(1,1%) lateral periodontal cysts and 1(0,4%) gingival cyst of adults. The age distribution hada peak incidence in the third decade (36% of the sample).The results show edan equal distribution between the sexes with no statistical differences. The most prevalente anatomical site was the mandible,compusing 67% of the sample.
