Abstract

Dental root resorption makes part of an event occurring both physiologically, when involved in the deciduous tooth exfoliation, and pathologically, when results from traumatic injury to or irritation of the periodontal attachment and/or pulp tissue of permanent teeth. The active cellular component of this process is represented by the interaction between inflammatory cells and others called clasts. These cells act after several molecular stimuli and sinalization arising from cytokines, neuropeptides and degradation products liberated by the affected tissue. This purpose of this paper is to make a review about root resorption, emphasizing their biochemical and cellular events, their classification and etiological factors.
