Resumen

Kimberlitos são rochas ígneas, ultrabásicas, potássicas e ricas em cristais de olivina. Na Província Ígnea do Alto Paranaíba (PIAP), no oeste de Minas Gerais, aflora a intrusão Indaiá I, cujo potencial diamantífero é considerado baixo. Sendo assim, objetivou-se realizar uma descrição petrográfica dessa rocha, bem como avaliar o seu potencial diamantífero baseando-se na composição química da olivina. Seis lâminas delgadas foram estudadas ao microscópio petrográfico, das quais foram selecionados cristais isolados de olivina e um xenólito dunítico para investigações de química mineral por Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV/EDS). Este kimberlito de textura inequigranular contém muitos cristais frescos, com complexidades texturais derivadas de suas heterogeneidades químicas. Com base nos teores de forsterita, CaO e NiO, no núcleo das olivinas, observou-se que muitas delas são quimicamente diferentes daquelas coexistentes com diamantes, indicando uma intrusão estéril.
