Kimberlites are ultrabasic, potassic, olivine-rich igneous rocks. The Indaiá I intrusion outcrops in western Minas Gerais, in the Alto Paranaíba Igneous Province (APIP), and its diamondiferous potential is considered low. Hence, this study aimed to carry out a petrographic description of this rock, as well as to evaluate its diamondiferous potential based on the chemical composition of olivine. Six thin sections were observed under a petrographic microscope, from which olivine single crystals and a dunite xenolith were selected for mineral chemistry investigations by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM/EDS). This inequigranular kimberlite contains plenty of fresh crystals with textural complexities derived from their chemical heterogeneities. The contents of forsterite, CaO, and NiO in the olivine cores demonstrated that many of them are chemically different from those coexisting with diamonds, indicating a barren intrusion.
