ANALYSIS OF THE 2012 CRISIS IN THE FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE OF THE ELECTRICITY INDUSTRY LISTED IN BM & FBOVESPA

Abstract

The article aims to analyze the impact of the 2012 crisis in the financial performance of the electricity industries listed on the BM&FBovespa. For this, we carried out a descriptive study with a quantitative approach in 40 industries in the electricity sector listed on the BM&FBovespa. Analyses were performed from the economic and financial indicators of liquidity, profitability, indebtedness and activity. Data for the study were collected from Economatica® database from 2009 to 2013, while the tabulation of data and preparation of graphs and tables was done in Microsoft Office Excel 2007, using the average of the indicators for each year. Thus, the results showed that the 2012 crisis in the electricity sector caused adverse effects on debt and profitability indicators, while liquidity and activity indicators had positive changes that can be justified by claims paid by the Federal Government for the renewal of concessions. Thus, one can infer that the economic and financial indicators of the electricity sector industries showed significant variations during the crisis in this sector.
