Abstract

This article aims to supply a broad picture of the theoretical foundations of the concept of the credit system and of its relations with the process of reproduction of the industrial capital in the theory of Marx. The author’s concept of the credit system designates the structure of circulation of values characteristic of the capitalism, articulated by the banking system and mediated by credit  instead of money, which  is replaced by credit money.  The credit system rests on commercial credit and on the function of means of payment of money on one hand, and, on the other hand, on money handling and interest bearing capital and on money credit, and is completed with the constitution of the banking system, in which all these elements are combined. The paper attemps to show that money handling capital performs a central function in the articulation of the credit system.
