        Abstract

Environmental damage caused by economic and institutional activities are a
recurring concern in debates on the economic subject. Due to the great relevance and
international traits of environmental issues, the objectives for a more sustainable planet
become crucial for all countries. Current work identifies possible conditioning factors to
the environmental capacity of developed and developing countries. The formulation of
two methodological techniques provided a static mapping of specific transitivity among
groups of forty world economies during analysis and of interaction between scientific
areas and technological fields as from environmental patents. Clusters analysis and discriminating analysis were applied. Main results contribute towards evolutionary literature and progress (albeit smaller) with regard to the evolution of the national systems of
innovation of developing countries. These traits contribute towards policy strategies in environmental technological development.
