This article tests the hypothesis of the existence of home-fiel effect in soccer games. The information of two classics of the gaúcho soccer, Grêmio Football Porto-Alegrense against Sport Club Internacional (Gre-Nal) and Grêmio Esportivo Brasil against Sport Club Pelotas (Bra-Pel) are used. We found evidences of the home-field effect for both rivals in the first, but only for the Esporte Clube Pelotas in the second classic. A robustness check is done using matches played in neutral fields and no home-field effect was found. Additionally, we tested the carryover effect and, in this case, we only found evidences of the effect, asymmetrically, in the Bra-Pel’s case, for the Brasil de Pelotas’ team.Downloads
