As a scientific discipline, economics interprets and analyzes socioeconomic phenomena. To this end, ontological premises are fundamental, as they allow for a comprehensive understanding of the inherently dynamic nature of social reality.
Thorstein Veblen's thought, grounded in these assumptions, offers a theoretical basis for understanding socioeconomic reality through the interaction, interdependence, and continuous evolution between individuals and institutions, mediated by habits of thought and behavior. This study systematizes and explores these assumptions present in Veblen's thought, which enable the analysis of structural and behavioral changes in terms of cumulative processes, as well as guiding the implementation of policies aimed at social development.
