This article analyses the evolution of the labor productivity at various sectors of the Brazilian economy. The analysis is performed at the state level, base don’t he performance during the decade of the nineties. Projections of this labor productivity are made by the use of Markov matrices. Based on the distribution of the sectors labor productivity at the beginning and the end of the decade, four classes for this distribution were determined. The probabilities of transition of a state from one class to the others were determined. This constitutes a transitional probability matrix called Markov matrix The results indicate a convergence of the labor productivity in five of the eight sectors analyzed. In three sectors the states converge to the class of the lowest productivity. In one sector the states converge to the two lowest classes and in other sector the states converge to the class of the highest productivity. In general, the time required for convergence is very long.Downloads
