        Abstract

The Brazilian agriculture modernization process, up to the opening of the economy since 1990, had a strong State participation through agricultural policies. However, not all the regions were benefited homogeneously with the great technological advancement observed in the Brazilian agriculture. The formal analysis of data, aiming to characterize the Rio Grande do Sul agriculture modernization process, through two tools of multivaried statistics highlighted that the most technological developed counties in Rio Grande do Sul agriculture were those associated to using irrigation and intensive workmanship. On the other hand, the counties with the least technological developed agriculture were those that used extensive workmanship and low intensity of fertilizers, correctives and technical assistance.
