      Abstract

      This paper aims at analyzing the causes and consequences of banking consolidation in Brazil, focusing on the particular features of the process of the Brazilian banking consolidation in the light of the international experience. In particular, the paper shows that although Brazil is following the general trends of banking consolidation around the world (in both OCDE countries and emerging countries), there are some important particular features that should be stressed.
