    Abstract

    The instability in the international financial markets determined the emergence of new fronts in the debate concerning the international financial architecture. One of these fronts is the problem of sovereign, debt restructuring. There are, at least, two different perspectives: the market-oriented view emphasizes the maintenance of the contractual autonomy among market participants, with or without "contractual innovations"; the official view involve the creation of new institutions, in a statutory approach. This paper analyzes the current debate about sovereign debt restructuring.
