      Abstract

This paper analyses the economy of crime in Toledo (PR), through the interview of the judged and condemned people by lucrative crimes. The results show that the main reasons for the migration to criminal activities were: friends' induction; the need to help in the family budget; and the idea of "easy gain". The factors that took to the failure of that activity were the judged's negligence and the efficiency of the police. Most of the interviewees answered that the economic and personal return of their criminal activities was not worthwhile. More employment (with worthy income), study and opportunity are points stated by the interviewees to reduce/restrain the lucrative crimes.
