A ESTRATEGIA DE SUBSTITUIÇÃO DE IMPORTAÇÕES REVISITADA

Abstract

This paper surveys the basic ideas in the recent literature concerning the strategy of development which uses import substitution. We include in a new typology of trade strategies the possibility of potential complementarily between export promotion and import substitution, as in Liang (1992). Our work is an attempt to stimulate a new look at trade policies. We question the static comparative advantaged assumption, in favour of a dynamic one and consequently, we provide a promising framework for formulating policy about development patterns.
