DESREGULAMENTAÇÃO E GLOBALIZAÇÃO NA REESTRUTURAÇÃO DA CADEIA DO TRIGO

Abstract

This study analyses the impact of the deregulation of the wheat producing and transformation sector in Brazil, started in 1990, and accelerating the globalization of the several branches of the sector, which were previously regionally dispersed. We also study the several segments of the chain that extends from wheat farming to the fabrication of bread, cookies and pasta, with special attention to the wheat flour production. The impact of deregulation over the chain has been quite differentiated on the chain the adjustment mechanisms should be adopted to correct the specific distortions generated by that process. We analyses the evolution of the prices of wheat derivatives in the main regional markets, trying to understand their effects over national policies for insuring the supply the minimum daily allowances of the main nutrients to the population.
