Abstract
By means of the Greek edition established by Radt (2002), we present the translation of the first chapter (1.1) of the work Geōgraphika, by Strabo (c. 64 BC – 24 AD). In this introductory chapter of the work, the author defines geography, recognizes its main authors, justifies the theoretical-methodological framework of this discipline, and explains its goals. Given the absence of translations of the introductory chapters into Portuguese and the resulting lack of studies in this language, this article also includes notes that aim not only to clarify the translation choices made here, but also to elucidate the comprehension of the text at both the linguistic and argumentative levels.
