A TRADUÇÃO E SEU PROCESSO: “PENSANDO ALTO” ENQUANTO SE TRADUZ UM EPITÁFIO AUSONIANO

Abstract

In the area of Translation Studies, this work focuses on its applied part, linked to translation didactics, that is, on the teaching of translation in the training of translators. Specifically, it represents a formative experiment, following the Thinking-Aloud Protocols (TAP), that is, the protocols for thinking aloud, in which the verbalization of mental processes is recorded in notes (Hurtado Albir, 2018, p. 183). Methodologically, in the area of translation, it consists of placing the translator in training in front of a translation task with the request that he/she verbalize, as far as possible, what comes to mind when carrying out the task. This article, therefore, reflects the training experiences of a young Latin translator and documents his process of understanding the Latin source text, in its own rhythm, and its materialization in another linguistic body and another poetic system. For the experiment, an epigram dedicated to Agamemnon was used, the first composition of the Epitaphia by Ausonius, a poet from the fourth century of our era.
