Abstract

Virgil’s Eclogue 4 explores the transition from the Iron Age to the Golden Age. This cosmic transition engenders changes in different spheres, from poetry to politics. Virgil’s text suggests a continuous flow which reflects the cyclical movements of nature and history. Beyond the transformations explicitly described in the poem, Eclogue 4 incites the reader to imagine alternative realities and infinite possibilities for transformation, significantly expanding interpretative horizons. This work aims to analyze these processes, presenting a critical commentary and an original prose translation of Eclogue 4 from Latin into Brazilian Portuguese. The goal is to foster a dialogue with other commentators and contribute to the greater accessibility of this important work from the Western canon.
