Structured as a model of humanized care for newborns (NB), the Kangaroo Mother (KM) encourages skin-to-skin contact through the kangaroo position, as well as the participation of parents in care. Consisting of three stages, it contributes to the reduction of neonatal morbidity and mortality. In this journey to analyse on the experiences of adolescent mothers in the stages of the KM and to discuss the nurse as a facilitator of the education-action process of maternal care. Descriptive, qualitative study, Narrative of Life method, carried out in two public maternity hospitals in the city of Rio de Janeiro. Eight adolescent mothers were interviewed from May to October 2019. Data thematic analysis technique was applied. The experiences in the CM began only in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), with premature birth of the newborn, continuing the second stage of the method in the Kangaroo Intermediate Care Unit (UCINCa) and the third stage of the same in the follow-up outpatient clinic of the reference units. Through the kangaroo position, the adolescent mothers felt closer to their children, the second stage of the method being an opportunity to acquire the practice of care, and the guidance received by the nurses, essential in this process. The continuation of the method at home was considered challenging, evidencing the need for support from the family network, the hospital health teams and the Family Health Strategy (ESF). The educational process conducted by the nurses took place through the dialogue associated with demonstration, being the second essential step for the learning and empowerment of care, however, the first contact with the method only occurred at the hospital level, which highlights the fragility of the strategy and management of care for newborns in Primary Health Care.
