Quality physical, physiological and external morphology of ten varieties of seeds lima bean (Phaseolus lunatus L.)

The lima bean is a legume that stands out for its hardiness. Due to the importance of seeds for the deployment of culture, the objective of this study was to evaluate the physical, physiological and characterize the external morphology of seeds of ten varieties of fava beans. Was performed to evaluate the physical quality of seeds, determined by water content; biometric measurements (length, width and thickness) and weight of thousand seeds. For physiological quality: germination, first count germination and emergence rate index, fresh and dry matter of seedlings. The profiling of seeds was described as the color of the coat. The results were submitted to analysis of variance and the Scott-Knott test at 5% significance level. We also performed the Pearson Correlation Coefficient. The ninth seed from the variety show lower physiological quality, by the germination test and vigor, however, they exhibited good physical quality through biometrics and weight of thousand seeds. Biometrics and staining of lima bean seeds aid in the differentiation between the varieties.Downloads
