Há quase oitenta anos publicou-se “Fayolismo na administração das escolas públicas”, de José Querino Ribeiro, fundador da Associação Nacional de Política e Administração da Educação (ANPAE). Este artigo analisa suas contribuições teóricas, destacando seu caráter pioneiro e paradigmático dentro das abordagens empírico-racionais, pautadas no paradigma do consenso, hoje em voga. Evidencia que atrelar a obra do autor à mera similitude escola-empresa é reduzir seu pensamento, o mesmo que revela uma preocupação teórica que lhe confere contemporaneidade: a busca da eficiência dos serviços educacionais.
