Abstract

Neste artigo são discutidas as políticas públicas para a educação profissional de nível médio, desenvolvidas a partir da promulgação da Lei 9.394/96. Identificamos quatro períodos com diferentes concepções acerca dessa modalidade de formação. Analisamos documentos oficiais, a legislação e dados sobre a evolução das matrículas. A pesquisa evidenciou o embate entre diferentes projetos para a educação profissional de nível médio, bem como os processos de descentralização e recentralização do controle desse nível de ensino.
