This article analyzes the video installation Night and Day (I think of you), by the Brazilian artist Claudio Goulart (Porto Alegre, 1964 – Amsterdam, 2005), who was based in the Netherlands. The work was originally exhibited at the Time Based Arts gallery in Amsterdam in 1983. Never before shown in Latin America, it was reassembled for the 14th Mercosur Biennial (2025). Goulart was part of the first generation of video artists in the Netherlands, creating original projects in collaboration with Time Based Arts and other Dutch media art institutions during the 1980s and 1990s. The aim of this article is to recover the memory of the artist’s production, exploring his trajectory and activities in Amsterdam, where he lived from 1976 to 2005.
