The proposal we present here consists of outlining some methodological guidelines that answer two general questions: how should we approach a philosophical text in order to establish a fruitful dialogue with it? And what would be a desirable way to study the history of philosophy in a particular period? Starting from the definition of the philosophical canon based on its functioning and the possible answers to these questions, we intend to test a proposal for a historiographical reading that challenges the current philosophical canon, taking into account the contextualism proposed by Skinner and the historical-philosophical readings of Richard Rorty.
