The flows and uses that we print in the city transform, give new meaning and allow a new look, over time, of socio-spatial ruptures and discontinuities. This research focuses on the perspective of socio-environmental sustainability, selecting the municipal economy as an element of analysis. We analyze the marks imprinted by socio-spatial processes on the citizens' sense of belonging, from the perspective of work, consumption and permanence of capital in the territory, thinking that the population can turn to the city, as a space of experience, coexistence and affection due to the effective and constant uses and appropriations of space. Alvorada was chosen for this study because it composes a new centrality from its emancipation from the municipality of Viamão, the largest in the eastern metropolitan region of Porto Alegre/RS. In reading these socio-spatial processes that provide or not socio-environmental sustainability and the feeling of belonging, we weave spatial clippings, from a study based on the development of sectors of the municipal economy, to understand their contributions for the capital to remain in the municipality, in terms of consumption, employability and consequent or non-belonging by the permanence of citizens in Alvorada, which we consider as locating processes. For this, we analyzed indices related to the human and economic development of the municipality, interviewed local entrepreneurs and proposed a questionnaire, answered by citizens from Alvorada. The data obtained allow some considerations that are not exhausted in this work, but that reinforce the pressing need for the municipal public management of Alvorada to invest in policies, plans, programs and actions that promote a relationship of belonging of the population to the municipal territory and local socio-environmental sustainability .
