This article aims to analyze the theoretical framework on teaching Geomorphology based on the assumptions of the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC, in Portuguese), as well as the methods applied in Brazil and abroad, and the results of teaching-learning of relief in the final grades of elementary School. The strategies that can be used to make the study of relief more meaningful for students were investigated. The relevance of this study considers that understanding Geomorphology is fundamental for the formation of citizens aware of environmental issues that directly impact their lives. Understanding the physical characteristics and geological and geomorphological processes that shape the Earth's surface helps to understand the relationships between people and their environment. To this end, a bibliographical review was carried out on the topic, a critical analysis of current pedagogical practices in Brazil and also of experiences abroad, through comparison with successful international practices. It is expected that the research can contribute to improving the teaching and learning of Geomorphology in Brazilian schools, suggesting more effective didactic strategies to make the study of relief more meaningful and engaging for students both in the cognitive sense and in terms of civic education, in order to qualify perception of one's place in the world and the impression of characteristics of the world itself.
