REPERCUSSÕES TERRITORIAIS RECENTES EM VITÓRIA DO XINGU (PA): UM ESTUDO A PARTIR DA INSTALAÇÃO DA UHE BELO MONTE

Abstract

This article presents the results of a research on the recent territorial repercussions in Vitória do Xingu, state of Pará, resulting from the installation of UHE Belo Monte between 2010 and 2020. The installation of the power plant caused changes in the city's urban landscape, with territorial expansion and the growth of irregular occupations in the municipality, as well as the creation of allotments in agrovillages and villages. From a geographic perspective, the article presents UHE Belo Monte as a transformative element of the territory, with far-reaching territorial repercussions in Vitória do Xingu (PA). The article concludes that the installation of the power plant generated a process of transformation and territorial expansion in Vitória do Xingu, with the migration of people in search of employment opportunities and the establishment of service companies catering to UHE Belo Monte, resulting in profound territorial changes.
