Abstract

This article deals with lines and flows of existence, addresses how the Tradition of Ifá thinks the lines of destiny.  The Yoruba word Ipin translates as destiny, moreover, it is about how life unfolds from the choices humans make.  For Ifá, destiny is not something fixed, but what each one defines and elaborates based on their own choices.  It is believed that the person receives a map called Odú so that he can understand his choices.  The article dialogues with the comparative anthropology of Tim Ingold's lines, producing a "linealogy" of Ifá.  It brings my experience as a Bàbálawo who for a little over ten years has been translating the Tradition of Ifá and Òrìsà for people, whether in performing rituals (the practice of Ifá) and/or teaching the fundamental aspects of divination and medicine of the Ifá (the theory of Ifá).
