Abstract

This essay presents some reflections about the possibilities of thinking about life in the city from the place of sounds and the listening in the production of knowlegde in Urban and Regional Planning. We discuss the singularities of listenning as a way of experience, construct and meaning realities, emphasizing the character incessant of sounds in everyday life. The listenning is understood as a sense receptor of a high desity of  stimuli – which often individuals are indifferent. Drawing on blasé attitude (Simmel) as a key concept for understanding the perceptions of sounds coming from the city, both in the everyday live and in scientific practice. Starting from the fact that sounds are not prominent issue in the study of the city in  Urban and Regional Planning and that, when treated, tendo to be as negativities, as interference noise generator, seeks to undertand the ability of individuals to act selectively in relation to sounds in everyday life and also in scientific practice.
