MANA-MÚSICA: INTERPRETATIONS OF MUSIC CULTS AND EVANGELICAL DISCOURSES

Abstract

This paper results of the research “And the Word became sing”: music, discourse and worship. It pretend explore musical structures from different ways of 'being' evangelical, from the ethnographic work between two Baptist churches of Traditional and Pentecostal lines, held in Belo Horizonte - MG. Through the analysis of recordings of worship music and discourses, we see the music will be more than a symbolic image, it’ll be the significant where different meanings emerge, seized and transformed not only by the prospect of hearing, but by itself bring ideas, values and concepts related to the sacred and the profane, according to the filters and individual interests. I highlight here reflections on sacred: the market of the sacred, mediated by the growing gospel movement, seen as a way of life; the similarities of music and musical differences as place – prayer supporting a text that loads and transforms worlds, since it understands the music as a kind of  mana  in the evangelical worships.
