Abstract

This paper shows the findings of an anthropological research. The research describes the sociability between men and women of distinct social and etharial groups in the ballroom dance in Fortaleza, Ceara. It considers the ballroom dance as a space of sociability as well as analyzes the feminine experiences evoked by this leisure choice and the perceptions related to the body and the affections. The understanding of how these women age in Fortaleza enables to think about how the walking to this phase of the life allows a wider process of individualization and autonomy.
