Abstract

The Scientific Week is the largest annual scientific event at the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, serving as a forum to showcase the research we carry out daily and to gather undergraduate and postgraduate students, faculty, and professionals from other institutions in Porto Alegre and the state.

For 42 years, we have consistently come together to promote research and scientific collaborations, motivate young researchers, reflect on our role as producers of knowledge within society, and also seek solutions to the constant and diverse challenges we face. These efforts aim to maintain young people's interest in research, keep research alive within our institutions, and transform the research results into products and concrete actions for the community.

In the past two years, due to the strict restrictions imposed by the pandemic, we held the scientific week entirely online and succeeded in organizing a leaner event with a wide reach to both internal and external audiences. The positive experience of these years has given us confidence to hold the event again virtually, which actually allows us to reach a larger number of people. In this 42nd edition of the Scientific Week, we registered a total of 2,132 participants, and after the event, all activities remained accessible to the community in digital format.

With the central theme “Health and Sustainability,” the Scientific Week included activities on One Health and Planetary Health, on sustainable health systems, on the ESG Journey and its importance for hospitals and health professionals, on the impact of new technologies and the challenges of their integration, on innovations in health education, and on implementation science for change. Additionally, three courses were offered throughout the week, covering the Redcap platform for data management, avoidable waste in research, and strategies for communicating science.
