The climate crisis agenda has gained prominence in recent years due to the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and calls from the international community to redouble efforts to respond to this crisis. Although the topic of climate is not new to the global scientific agenda, it remains relatively underexplored within the social sciences (Dunlap & Brulle, 2015), despite a growing number of publications on the subject in recent years. As Salmi and Fleury (2022) note, contributions to the debate from the field of Political Science in Brazil have focused primarily on research into global environmental governance and, more recently, on climate governance and policy. In this regard, there is a need to deepen and diversify the debate on politics and the climate crisis by incorporating research linked to political behaviour, political culture and public opinion, political theory, elite studies, institutions, and public policy—whether from local, national, transnational, or comparative perspectives. Therefore, this dossier seeks to create a space for building this research agenda, welcoming contributions from the field of Political Science as well as interdisciplinary contributions that engage with debates in the area. A second objective of the dossier is to situate the debate from South American. The region possesses characteristics that make it central to discussions on the climate crisis: it is home to several biomes crucial to planetary life, such as the Amazon; and it lies at the heart of international debates regarding just transitions, decarbonization, and sustainability. Furthermore, the region possesses an epistemic and political diversity linked to the strong presence of Indigenous peoples who propose a different configuration of the relationship between human beings and nature, and whose mobilization in defence of their territories has driven substantial political changes, such as the recognition of the rights of nature. Thus, grounding reflections in the region opens the door to contributions addressing diverse theoretical, methodological, and epistemic perspectives, while also seeking to articulate a regional scientific agenda.

Extrema Direita em perspectiva comparada
No mundo todo a democracia representativa parece estar em crise, que é frequentemente creditada pela literatura da Ciência Política à ascensão da Nova Direita, Direita Radical, Extrema Direita ou Populismo de Direita. Tal crise se manifesta nos sistemas partidários, na representação legislativa, nos governos, na comunicação e mesmo em organizações internacionais. Nenhum sistema político, seja uma democracia madura ou jovem, parlamentar ou presidencialista, parece estar imune a essa ameaça. O crescimento indiscutível do fenômeno tem motivado a criação de novas linhas de investigação na Ciência Política. O debate não se limita ao esforço em detectar as causas do fenômeno. Em termos conceituais e metodológicos, há também indefinições importantes sobre o grau de comparabilidade de experiências da extrema-direita em contextos com culturas e sistemas políticos distintos. O uso de termos variados para descrever fenômenos semelhantes é sinal de que há espaço para aprimoramentos conceituais e construção de tipologias oriundas da pesquisa empírica comparada. Neste dossiê daremos preferência a estudos de caso e comparativos de países das Américas e Europa, com perspectivas metodológicas quantitativas, qualitativas ou mistas.

The Far Right in Comparative Perspective
Around the world, representative democracy appears to be in crisis, which is often attributed in political science literature to the rise of the New Right, Radical Right, Far Right, or Right-wing Populism. This crisis affects party systems, legislative representation, governments, communication, and even international organizations. No political system, whether consolidated or young, parliamentary or presidential, seems to be immune to this threat. The undeniable growth of this phenomenon challenges political science and has induced the creation of new lines of investigation. The debate is not limited to efforts to detect its causes. From both conceptual and methodological perspectives, questions remain about the extent to which experiences of the far right can be compared across diverse cultural and political settings. The diversity of terms used to describe similar phenomena highlights the need for greater conceptual clarity. This dossier seeks to advance understanding through theoretical reflection, comparative research, and empirical insights from case studies. Case studies from Latin America, Europe and the USA and proposals with quantitative, qualitative and comparative methodological perspectives will be considered.

La extrema derecha en perspectiva comparada
En todo el mundo, la democracia representativa parece estar en crisis, lo que a menudo se atribuye en la literatura de ciencias políticas al auge de la nueva derecha, la derecha radical, la extrema derecha o el populismo de derecha. Esta crisis afecta a los sistemas de partidos, la representación legislativa, los gobiernos, la comunicación e incluso las organizaciones internacionales. Ningún sistema político, ya sea consolidado o joven, parlamentario o presidencial, parece inmune a esta amenaza. El innegable crecimiento de este fenómeno desafía a la ciencia política y ha dado lugar a nuevas líneas de investigación. El debate no se limita a los esfuerzos por detectar sus causas. Desde una perspectiva tanto conceptual como metodológica, siguen sin resolverse cuestiones sobre hasta qué punto se pueden comparar las experiencias de la extrema derecha en contextos culturales y políticos diversos. La diversidad de términos utilizados para describir fenómenos similares pone de relieve la necesidad de una mayor claridad conceptual. Este dossier pretende avanzar en la comprensión a través de la reflexión teórica, la investigación comparativa y los conocimientos empíricos obtenidos de estudios de casos. Se tendrán en cuenta estudios de casos de América Latina, Europa y Estados Unidos, así como propuestas con perspectivas metodológicas cuantitativas, cualitativas y comparativas.
