Author Guidelines

Rules to submit in Revista Debates 1. Contributions must be presented as articles, reviews or research reports; 2 - Submission and publication of articles, reviews or research notes are not taxed in any way by the magazine Debates; 3. The title must represent the content of the work; 4. The abstract must have information such as problem, hypotheses or questions, methodology, results and conclusions; 5. The key-words must reflecting the content of the topic presented; 6. Images, charts, tables and maps must be clear, illustrative and pertinent to the text; 7. The title, abstract and key-words must be presented in portuguese and english. 8. The bibliography must be presented in accordance with the rules of the magazine (ABNT); 9. The text must present theoretical coherence; 10. The methodology must be consistent and properly used; 11. Empirical date must be congruent with the theory used; 12. Works mentioned in the text must be listed in the bibliography. Rules to submit articles: 1. Works must be between 5,000 and 8,000 words long; 2. They should be double-spaced, including notes, tables, charts, maps or other images and bibliography; 3. A complete proof-read version must be sent by the author in Word; 4. Formatting: Times New Roman, body 12, top margin 3cm and bottom 2cm, left margin 3cm and right 2cm, paper A4; 5. Charts and tables must be sent, along with the article, in the program used for their elaboration (Excel, etc.), with bibliography and localization in the text; 6. The initial page must include: title of the article (max. 140 characters, with spaces), Times New Roman, size 14, bold and capital letters; name (s) of the author (s) below the title and the indication of the institutional affiliation (in footnotes); abstract (in the language of the article, max. of 1,000 characters including spaces) and from three to five key-words which must be below the authors’ names (maximum 125 characters including spaces). The abstract must present the objectives, methods and conclusions of the text, in Times New Roman, size 11, simple space, justified; 7. Subtitles must be in Times New Roman, size 12, bold, only first letter capitalized, without numbering. Titles and subtitles must be aligned to the left; 8. The beginning of the paragraphs must have 1.25cm of tabulation (1 TAB standard); 9. The author-date system must be used for quotations of Literature in the text. Short literal citations (less than 3 lines) should be placed within the paragraph, between inverted comas and followed by the surname of the author cited in the text, the year of publication and page (s) of the cited text - everything should be in parentheses and commas. Citations with more than three lines must be detached from the text in a special paragraph and indented (4cm to the right of the left margin). These citations must not be italicized or placed between inverted commas, but should be in simple space, size 10, justified; 10. The reference to the author (s) cited must be, if in brackets, in capital letters followed by the year of publication. If in the body of the text, it must be in lowercase followed by the year of the publication in brackets; 11. Foreign or highlighted words must be in italics; 12. Footnotes must not be bibliographical but contain complementary information and/or comments and consecutively listed in Arabic numbers; 13. Bibliography must be placed at the end of the article, according to the Bibliography norms which are at the end of these Guidelines for authors; 14. When submitting his/her work, the author, is automatically agreeing with its publication. Rules for the submission of Reviews: 1. Bibliographical reviews must be on books which provide important contribution to the field; 2. They must contain a maximum of 2,000 words, including footnotes and bibliography; 3. They must be in A4, with top and left margins of 3cm, bottom and right margins of 2cm, Times New Roman, size 12, justified; 4. The author must submit complete and proof-read works in Word; 5. Full reference of the reviewed book must appear at the top of the file, justified, specifying: Author (s), title and subtitle (if any), location (city), publishing house, year of publication and number of pages; 6. Full reference must be followed, on the line below and flush right, by the complete name of the author (s) of the review which must contain the first footnote, with the institutional affiliation and e-mail; 7. The beginning of the paragraphs must have a tabulation of 1.25cm (1TAB); 8. Direct or indirect citations to passages of the reviewed work must be complemented only with the indication of the corresponding page (s). In case of citation of other works, the same procedure for articles (item 10) must be followed. References of the mentioned authors must be, if in brackets, in capital letters followed by the year of publication; if in the body of the text, in lower case followed by the year of publication in brackets; 9. It is recommended that reviews be critical evaluations which discuss the main topics dealt with in two or more books concerned with the same issues. It is essential that it discuss the theoretical content of the analyzed work and mention relevant works pertaining to the specific literature of the books; 10. Footnotes must not be bibliographical but comments concerning complementary information and consecutively listed in Arabic numbers; 11. Foreign or highlighted words must be in italics; 12. Bibliography must be included at the end of the article, according to the Bibliography norms that can be found at the end of these Guidelines for authors; 13. Upon submission of his work, the author is automatically agreeing with its publication. Rules for Research Reports and Essay submission: 1. Research Reports must indicate relevant points regarding conducted researches; 2. There should be a limit of 7,000 words, including footnotes and bibliography; 3. A4 paper, with top and left margins of 3cm, bottom and right margins of 2cm, Times New Roman, size 12, justified double line spacing; 4. The author must submit complete and proof-read works in Word; 5. The complete reference of the research presented must be in a footnote, justified, specifying: title and subtitle (if any), who is responsible for the research, location (city) and year of publication; 6. The title (max. 160 characters with spaces) must be followed, in the line below, flush right, by the full names of the author(s) of the Research Report, which must contain the institutional affiliation and e-mail of the author in a footnote; an abstract must also be presented (in the language of the article, with a max. of 1,000 characters with spaces) and an abstract of the article in English, 3 to 5 key-words (max. 125 characters including spaces), which must come below the author’s name.
