Abstract

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze how the city of Porto Alegre in the early 21st century is represented in two contemporary novels by Maria Valéria Rezende and José Falero. In addition to a thorough reading of these novels, this study is based on a theoretical review of urban transformations and the role of the city in literary construction. It can be concluded that, although the narratives analyzed share the same geographical setting, both books are marked by gender, ideological, and social influences which are factors that help identify diverse voices that form the urban fabric.
