Political incursions and symbolic violence against aging bodies in dance in Brazil: between artistic practices and education

Abstract

This article presents a summary of research developed in the Master's program of the Graduate Program in Arts at the Federal University of Pelotas (PPGArtes/UFPel), related to the dissertation project previously titled "Andragogical Perspectives of Work Based on the Biographical Body in Mature and Aging Men." Its main objective is to analyze how the broadcasting of stage works that overvalue youth and frequently compromised bodily aspects in mature and elderly bodies reinforces a body model for dance. To this end, it uses the studies of Pierre Bourdieu and his concepts of field, habitus, and capital as a foundation. It also addresses symbolic violence, along with sociological theories of aging developed by anthropologist Guita Grin Debert. Finally, it presents some resistance dance practices, such as the Companhia Turno 2 of UFPel.
