The interview with dance artist Sônia Mota took place in December 2024 as part of the author’s master’s research on dance and aging. Throughout the conversation, she reflects on the connections between contemporary dance and the aging processes she experiences as a dancer who, at an advanced age, encounters challenges such as devaluation, age-related prejudice, pain, and limitations. She also highlights newly discovered potentials, including the resignification of dance within the aging body and the recovery of ancestry. These reflections reveal valuable insights into how dance and aging mutually support one another: dance discovers new poetics nourished by old age, while aging learns acceptance and the overcoming of barriers.
