Abstract

This study investigates the evolution and interconnection of theories of acquisition and learning highlighting their application in the Teaching/Licentiate course in Additional Languages of a federal university. Employing a quanti-qualitative approach (Minayo, 1997, 2012), the study focused on responses from 12 PhD professors regarding the theoretical-methodological bases that support their pedagogical practices were verified. The results indicate a predominance of the Sociocultural Theory (Vygotsky, 1984), with 83.3%, followed by the Interaction Hypothesis (Long, 1981), with 58.3%, and the Monitor Model (Krashen, 1982), with 25%. The perception of the professors about their own teaching practices highlight the relevance of interaction, input and cultural contexts in the initial training of teachers.
