CHINA ALSO LOOKS TOWARDS THE ARCTIC

Abstract

This paper analyses the current Arctic strategic and political scenario, highlighting the Chinese goals in the region. Firstly, the work presents the geographic and political context of the High North in the foreign affairs relations. Afterwards examines the two main aspects which attract the China’s attention: natural resources exploration and opening new trade maritime routes. Later on stresses the main Chinese acts to become an important player in the Arctic relations, in its bilateral and multilateral actions. At last, presents the main guidelines of the Chinese Arctic Policy.
