Identity and diversity in the Brazilian context: an analysis of the partnership between State and LGBT social movements from 2002 to 2015

This paper aims to investigate the constitution of the notion of sexual and gender diversity and how this notion was associated with the identity politics developed in Brazil in the last decades. Within this analytical framework, I try to discuss the partnership established between the brazilian State and social movements, especially LGBT movement, characterizing how this relationship has produced the current forms of governmentality of the LGBT in the last 13 years (until the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff). Finally, based on the Foucault’s concepts of governmentality and biopolitics and also on the analysis of some public policies developed during this period in Brazil, I try to think about some milestones that have stimulated the claims of tolerance and inclusion. I also examine the ways in which the technologies of capturing and controlling of the LGBT bodies, sexual practices and pleasures.
