This article presents the main works which have studied the history of the concept of “feudalism” between 1929 and 2015, based on the analyses carried out by German, French, English and Italian medievalists. This controversy not only shows the various conceptual studies written in the referred period, but points out and proposes various elements that could help to understand in a more profound way the transformations in the use of the mentioned concept.
