Abstract

The violent military offensive launched by the Argentine military after the coup of March 24, 1976 caused a disorderly withdrawal of Argentine revolutionary militants. After the first impact, the strategy of political-military organization Montoneros was seeking to reorganize and joint remaining forces abroad. One of the areas chosen for that was Brazil. The objective of this paper is to analyze the performance of the Montoneros in Brazil between 1978 and 1980. During this period, the group developed, from bases abroad, several strategies of struggle and resistance against the civil-military dictatorship in Argentina, a set of political-military operations that have passed into History as the counteroffensive Montonera. Meanwhile, Argentine repression strengthened ties with Brazilian enforcement to hunt opponents within Brazil, inside the international repressive connection known as Operation Condor. This research was documented with contributions from various sources: from unpublished official funds, through newspaper files of human rights organizations, private collections and new oral interviews with the subjects, direct or supporting actors in this story.
