Abstract

This paper analysis the first edition of Torquato Neto’s Os Últimos Dias de Paupéria, edited in 1973, through an interdisciplinary approach that establishes a dialogue between the literary studies and the historical field. The aim of such analysis is to understand how Torquato Neto was first introduced to a broader scope of readers and critics and in which way this shaped an understanding of this author. Given that Torquato Neto never published a book during his lifetime, and that, therefore, we are dealing with a posthumous work organized by third parties, this paper exposes how Os Últimos dias de Paupéria dialogues with the Brazilian cultural field of its time and how it creates a place for Torquato Neto in it.
