Between science and conservatism: which stories do we want to tell?

Authors

Abstract

The present text analyzes the history of History teaching in Brazil and problematizes the constitution of this curricular component in different historical periods. It is a bibliographical investigation that seeks support in Chervel (1990), Bittencourt (2008), Seffner (2019), Albuquerque Júnior (2019), among others, to analyze the discipline of History, linked to the conception of Problem History, widely spread in Brazil, since the mid-twentieth century. We found that over the years the discipline is concerned with issues that involve everyday life and absorbs such realities in its studies, which brings historical knowledge closer to the reality of students and creates an environment conducive to learning. However, teachers currently face denialism and defending science is a necessary strategy in the fight against conservatism that establishes bases on common sense and irrationality.
