During impression taking with alginate, the material is contamined with saliva, plaque and eventually blood which might contain micro organisms and might provide a significant source for cross-contamination in the dental practice. There foreitis necessary to adopt an efficient method of disinfection avoid this risk. The purpose of this research was to evaluate the efficacy of glutaraldehyd (2%)and sodium hypochlorite(27) in the disinfection of alginate impressions through 10 min of immersion. The evaluation was maid by the turbidity of the culture medium and microscopic analysis. The results showed that, from the 48 specimen of alginate, those which were washed in water for 10 s, or included in the culture medium immediately after impression showed bacterian growth. The specimen that were immersed in disinfecting solution did not present bacterian growth in the culture medium, proofing the efficacy of the disinfectants.Downloads
